Activities for children and young people

The Festival runs workshops for children and young people aged 3 – 21 led by highly skilled practising poets. The workshops are tailored to the groups’ needs and locations, for example youth group settings. They focus on improving expression, literacy, rhythm and the enjoyment of language. C and YP learn the building blocks of literacy and grammar through enjoyable and meaningful activities.

How we work with schools

Ledbury Poetry Festival runs a year-round programme for schools. Schools can request a poet to visit for a day, or welcome a poet in residence over a term or a year. The Festival can recommend a suitable poet and support the planning process. Opportunities such as a ‘Festival in a Day’ with three featured poets, workshops and a chance for pupils to perform or The Bench Trail project which enables pupils to create a digital poetry trail, and Keen Writers’ Workshops are popular. The Festival can collaborate with schools to create bespoke projects using themes, or link to areas of the curriculum. The Festival also runs inset days for teachers with world class leading poets.
